After the intense heat and humidity of the El Salvador coast, we headed up into the Guatemalan highlands. Situated in a valley ringed by cone shaped volcanoes is the beautiful city of Antigua. The Spanish once used this site to govern all of their holdings in Central America during the 16th Century. Now the city is colorful collage of the best aspects of Guatemalan culture.

Antigua is lively travelers destination, and there are a ton of activities for tourists. Since it is high in the mountains, the weather was perfect for outdoor sports. We went on a 25K mountain biking ride that weaved through the forests and stoped at local villages. The people here have interesting customs and everything is painted in bright colors. We liked Antigua so much, that our weekend trip ended up lasting an entire week!
