Day 1

What a great start to the Malyon adventure 2012/13. We left home on 21st at 16:00 and arrived in Brisbane at 06:45 on the 23rd. Everything went really smoothly and thanks to Helen and Richard we had a lovely start to the holiday at The One Lounge in Heathrow.

We picked up the hire car and drove straight up the coast to meet our friends in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. Quick cocktail in the hotel, as you do, and it was down to the beach to catch our first, but certainly not the last of our surfing fun. Of course we clearly stood out as the lillywhite POHMS on the beach but who cares. After much fun and frolicking in the surf it was back to the hotel for a bit of sun respite and a play in the pool.

it was now late in the day the sun was going down and we were struggling to keep awake so it was up to the roof top jacuzzi for some bubbles both in and out of the glass! What a fantastic start to the holiday. After a few more glasses of bubbly and a takeaway pizza we were already for the sack.

Day 2

Chris didn't make it through the night but managed to catch some of the Chelsea game live before returning to bed for a bit of extra kip. Everyone rose early, as seems to be the norm for the natives, and after a light breakfast Jillian and Graham headed back to Brisbane whilst the Malyon's plus Grace headed for the coast. Charl was keen to show Chris the route that she and Bex took back in 2010 so first stop was brunch in Noosa. Fantastic! Then we headed down the coast to Sunshine Beach even-though it was a little overcast! The waves were unbelievable. Great body surfing and although everyone was restricted into a small area because of the height and strength of the waves we had great fun.

We spent a couple of hours in the water and then headed further south to Coolum which was at the very southern end of the same bay. We had a very similar experience although it did feel that the waves this time were breaking even closer to the shore. Wave after wave would sweep you off your feet and you felt totally at the hands of a far greater power. A fantastic time was had by all and after some bat n ball exploits we headed off for a bite of lunch.

Our final beach for the day was at Maroochydore which was able to boast a coast line and an in-land lagoon protected from the power of the pacific. Given our morning exploits we opted for the more sedate option of the in-land lagoon. We had a lovely time playing more traditional family beach activities before heading back to Jillian and Grahams pad in Brisbane for a lovely BBQ.

There is something quite surreal about spending Xmas eve on the beach and listening to Xmas carols as you walk around in your shorts or bikini. Not sure how we will feel tomorrow other than that we will miss our family and friends but make sure we savour every single second of our adventure.
