|Phew! I thought Bangkok would be cooler at this time of year but for the last 2 days it has been hot and steamy and a very humid 31C. Recommend the Chao Phraya Express boat for a river trip. It operates like a bus and for 15 Baht (c30p) you can zip along the length of the river through central Bangkok. We are staying in the Bangrak district which is abundant in jewellery shops and tailors. You can even get a suit, shirt and tie for Euros49! Today we took the BTS Skytrain to the opposite ends of the Bangkok shopping spectrum. Firstly visiting the Siam Paragon which is the city's most up market shopping centre and then Chatuchak market where there are row upon row of stalls to get lost in selling mainly clothing, footwear and bags etc at bargain prices.
A visit to the Pak Khlong flower market is an experience not to be forgotten.
Bangkok is a city of contrasts and smells - not all pleasant! Today soaking wet after a downpour we got a taxi back to our hotel and after spending a quarter of hour showing him on a map where we wanted to go we eventually set off (for a fixed fare). I think I knew the city better than he did and had to point out where to go several times. In the end we gave up and got him to drop us when we got somewhere near as he really had no idea!
