Eiffel Tower from the Arc

Today we had a sleep in day. Not that we slept in but we didn't head out until 9:00. Another cloudy day.

We followed the historical tour in Rick Steve's Paris.

We walked down to Point Zero, the spot in front of Notre Dame that is the center of France. Toured the inside of the cathedral and then went to wait in line to climb the tower only to find we were in the front of the line and not the back and we didn't want to go back and start over. Decided we would come another day. ( This was the first long line we have encountered and there was no advantage with our museum pass). We continued on our route stopping at the Deportation Memorial in memory of the 200,000 French victims of to Nazi concentration camps.

Next stop Ile St. Louis, a rich area that is most famous for its ice cream shops. We found the recommended one and shared 2 scoops (dark chocolate and bitter cocoa). Delicious!

Crossed over to the Left Bank passed the sites listed in the book, stopping next at St. Severin Church, didn't stay as there was some type of service going on. Came out and saw the hearse so it obviously was a funeral!

We passed the skinniest house in Paris, only 2 windows wide.

We continued on back over to the island to Sainte Chapelle which also had a long line and no advantage for our museum pass. Decided to return at another time. Decide to stop at the Concierge Prison, but it was closed until November 22. We are not having very good luck!

Finished the tour and headed it the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. Went back to the apartment and rested until 5 and left for the Arc de Triomphe. We walked the famous Champs-Élysées, it was crowded!

Climbed up the 284 steps to the top. The view was well worth the climb. The Eiffel Tower was twinkling and then went back to just being lit. The view all around was fantastic. We returned to the ground to observe the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Every night the flame is rekindled and new flowers are laid.

We decided to take the metro back to the apartment as Verne's legs were tired. We still had to climb the 55 steps to our apartment!

The entrance to our apartment building is between a pharmacy and a hair salon and across from the Bank of France. Our apartment is above the pharmacy.
