|Today we are driving to Point Reyes National Seashore. We are driving through the farmland once again towards the ocean. We passed through a lot of small towns that are just bumps in the road. The road out to the point is very, very narrow and winding and bumpy. The coastline looks very different than in Oregon. As we are driving towards the Point we pass many historic ranches that are still operating as dairies – lots more cows. Some are on open range – watch out for cows on the road! When we get to the point it is ½ mile hike uphill to get to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is closed so we can’t go down to it, but the overlook is outstanding. After we hike back to the truck, we drive back down the road to an area where we can view some elephant seals. Another hike to get to the cove where they are laying up on the shore – they looked like logs stacked next to each other. There were two pups, but all of them were sleeping. We did finally see one really big one swimming out in the water. It was a really long drive there and back and took up the entire day. The coast was pretty foggy and as we drove back towards our campsite it was sunny and beautiful.
