We head into “town” for breakfast. We talk with two retired teachers from Elkton. We are disappointed that the RV Park and the fishing in Elkton do not work out. This is a great little town for relaxing.
We drive scenic Route 38 to the coast. The roads in Oregon are good. We follow the Umpqua River. If only the salmon would start to follow it!
I have low expectations for Reedsport and Winchester Bay. I expect Winchester Bay RV Resort it to be very high end. It looks nice. The price is not bad. It is a county park! Everything about it is wonderful!
We go exploring. I have seen dunes so I am not expecting much. I am wrong. I have not seen dunes. The Oregon Dunes Recreation Area is fifty-six miles long and three miles wide. The dunes are beautiful.
We see a few ATV’s. The signs should read “Come Play Here”. We take many pictures.
There is beach access everywhere. We see the ocean, the low dunes and then the high dunes. There is so much to take in.
We stop at the Umpqua River Lighthouse for pictures. We meet a watercolor artist and his wife. They are from Arizona and she is interested in Rving. We show off the rig and answer questions.
We visit the Umpqua Discovery Center in Reedsport. It is a small museum. We watch a great movie on the Dunes.
We end our afternoon at a Myrtlewood Store. It is another full day. Tomorrow, I think we will drive the Pacific Coast Highway north to Florence. It is only thirty-five miles away. Where did I hear that before?
