|When Zoe and I were about to leave Puerto Escondido, I suddenly became extremely ill and wasn't able to leave the bathroom. It was terrible. We had to spend another night at Hotel Rockaway, this one sleepless because I could not stop being sick. I'm still not nore what made me so ill - too much sun or the food I'd eaten for dinner.
Luckily, we were able to get our bus tickets refunded and were on another bus the next morning. The drive to Oaxaca (pronounced 'Wa-ha-ka' City was long and windy so it was impossible to catch up on lost sleep. There were also many stops along the way - to pick up people with chickens and to drop people off at their front doors. I guess because the communities are so remote, there aren't many big bus terminals.
The food in Oaxaca was delicious so it was defenitely worth eating at restaurants where they serve traditional meals. It seemed to be a very cultural city too, with lots of art galleries and singing and dancing on the streets. We stayed at Posada Margarita which gave us a nice, clean room right in the middle of all the action. My only problem with our location would have to be that the neary church bells seemed to ring all through the night, causing my sleep to be very restless. I guess it would have been worth buying ear-plugs.
