Tripping on the Central California Coast travel blog

My lovely wife Julie and I have both recently retired. We live on the central coast of where else? California. Julie was a school teacher and I worked for the last sixteen years of my working life at Hearst Castle. Many if not most of the folks RVing through this neck of the woods stop and visit the castle so if you have questions about the place I would be glad to give you the straight scoop if I can.

We bought a new 30' Keystone Cougar about a year and a half ago. We really like it! The first thing Julie had me do was tear out the upholstered tirm around the windows and put in painted (black) wood trim.

So far we have stayed fairly close to home but that will change before too long.

We have family in Westlake Village, about fifty miles north of Los Angeles and also in the San Francisco bay area. So far our trips have been to those areas.

Our son is also a school teacher and we have stayed in at least four RV parks near Santa Cruz which is where he lives. Our favorite spot is New Brighton beach which is a California State Park. We like to go walking wherever we go and New Brighton has a beautiful trail that leads down the cliffs to the beach. We usually bring our dogs along and N.B. works out well for that too. I did get my first and only scratch on my new truck there as there isn't much room to put a 30 foot 5th wheel in some of the sites. Like our Cougar but love my truck. It's my dream truck come true. A 2010 Dodge RAM 2500 crew cab, long bed with a 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel. Now we know which spots we like and don't like when we make reservations.

We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge in pouring rain to get to the Petaluma KOA. Very nice campground and plan to return.

We also have family in Alamo on the east bay and we take advantage of their simi circle driveway and set up camp right in the front yard. It's not full hook ups but we love them just the same and always look forward to our time in Alamo. My sister-in-law owns a quilt store there in Danville so if any oof you RVers are into quilting and need supplies while in Nor Cal, hit me up and I will gladly lead you to the store.

As far as So Cal we have family in Ojai and Westlake Village so the Ventura Beach RV park has become our park of choice down there. Our daughter loves the karaoke on Friday night and because I play drums and love music it's fun to check out the bands that play there on Saturdays from 7:00 to 10:00 PM. If you remember the Iron Butterfly you may want to stop in as the house band at Ventura Beach RV Park has three of the members from that band. Yes, the Iron Butterfly is playing at the Ventura RV Park!

Many people travel to come to where we live. Sitting here at my home computer when I look out my window I see the Pacific Ocean just south of Morro Bay.

I am very thankful to live where we do and to have our Cougar that we have named Bella.

Our spare tire cover has an airbrush painting on it that says "Bella" on it. One of my hobbies. So, if you pull up behind us and see Bella or in an RV park stop by and lets get aquainted. My lovely wife more that me but we like to meet new friends as we travel around.

Next stop, Las Vegas in late February. (I think)
