Warf off of Semporna. Garbage is a real problem here. This is...

Hotel rooms on stilts in Semporna

Enjoying a waffle and ice blended smoothie on the Semporna warf shortly...

Jason and I spent the morning wandering around Semporna, where we bought some fresh fruit from the local market, and sat on the wharf to enjoy a chocolate/peanut butter waffle and a few blended coffees. We reflected over the last three days on the Island of Mabul, the snorkeling and diving we did and all the animals we were able to see. Although the ocean waters did not produce the clarity we wanted for our water sports we did however enjoy our dives. The waters surrounding the Island of Mabul is very polluted with garbage (every kind imaginable) and we were disgusted to discover that at all the resorts, hostels, huts and guest houses on the ocean drop their toilet waters straight into the ocean waters surrounding you. On many occasions I watched the water from the toilet land in the ocean water below me through a small hole in the floor of the washroom. How disgusting, I did not feel good about this at all. The village residents are living in water huts right next to you, you see the water flowing from their huts into the ocean, their kids are swimming directly underneath and around the huts......they fish right off their decks......shocking. There was no way we were jumping in the water around our water house to snorkel, what a shame and no where in the reviews we looked up or anywhere on line did we find anyone notifying others of the garbage and feces dumping.

We left the wharf, picked up our laundry from the dry cleaners and at 5:30pm, Ruda (from Big John Scuba) and her friend picked us up at the dorm, and dropped us off at the Manis bus station where we hopped on a bus headed to the Tawau airport. We boarded our plane at 9:00pm, arriving in KL at 12:30am. This is where we stay until tomorrow morning, when we can catch the bus to Melaka, where we will be spending Xmas.
