Winter trip to Australia 2011/12 travel blog

Emu we passed as we drove up to Thredbo

Us at the top of Mt Kosi

on the way up

After thunder storms last night we awoke to a day of high cloud and some blue sky so we drove up to Thredbo, caught the 20min long chair lift up to 1220m on Mt Kosi as it is locally known. It is the highest mountain in Australia 2280m high in the Snowy Mountain range in the Kosciuszko National Park and a very popular treck from the chairlift to the top.

The walk is 13km 4-5hr along an undulating raised metal walkway which is protecting the alpine herb flower meadows and moss and fern ground below. It was beautiful and we were very lucky with the weather. At the top there was a grey curtain of cloud just catching the tops of some of the other mountains but clear blue sky and high white fluffy clouds as well and good visibility on most directions. We could see the track from Charlotte pass we had started in the freezing pouring rain the previous day.
