Today we took a ride to Carmel-by-the-Sea. Our first stop was at an old Mission that is still an active Roman Catholic Church and an elementary school. You are able to tour the grounds where they have many exhibits of the Mission when it was first started.
We then took a ride on the 17-Mile Drive. This is an exclusive area of Carmel that has several golf courses and some very nice homes. It also follows along the Pacific Coast for several miles. We were hoping to see some seals laying on the rocks, but were disappointed. It was an overcast day, and the seals were staying in the water.
Our final stop was at Fisherman's Wharg in Monterey where we had lunch and walked around some gift shops. When we were seated at the restaurant, we looked out the window, and there were many seals in the water and sitting on a wooden platform. It was fun to watch. There were also some pelicans on the railing just waiting to dive into the water to get their lunch.
It was a fun and interesting day. Tomorrow we leave the coast for Sequoia National Park. Looking forward to seeing some of the giant Sequioa trees, and possibly some more wild life.
