The Field Museum of Natural History is part of the area in Chicago called the Museum Complex. Within walking distance of each other is the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Adler Planetarium. I spent the afternoon at the Field Museum where I saw a 3D movie titled " Waking the T-Rex". It detailed the discovery and eventual move to this museum of the largest and most complete TRex to date - 42 feet long, 13 feet high, and 67 million years old! It is named "Sue" after the paleontologist Sue Hendrickson who found the bones during a dig in Utah.

There were three special exhibits - one called The Horse , another called Whales, and the third called Underground Adventure. The Horse dealt with the domestication of the animal and it's benefits to man. Whales was a touring exhibit from New Zealand and dealt mostly with legends of whale riding by the Maori tribe. Underground Adventure is exactly that . You go through a room where you are "shrunk" and then walk through a pathway of roots, bugs, etc . The kids loved it. The museum is quite large and has many, many rooms of wonderful permanent exhibits . Be prepared to spend the day .

I decided to walk back to the apartment planning on stopping at the restaurant that Owen manages which is half way. It was warmer than I thought and before I got to the restaurant I took a break at the Buckingham Fountain - a Chicago landmark on Lakeshore Drive. It was built in 1927 by Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother Clarence and is said to be one of the largest fountains in the world.

After lunching at The Gage, I walk to Colin's apartment in Marina Towers . Finally, I arrived home, kicked off my sandals, and gulped down a huge glass of water. Tonight we are experiencing a major thunderstorm with lots of lightening. Great views from the 48th floor!
