A sleep in today after our couple of early starts. We retrace our steps to St Girone to find a supermarket. After a few false starts (ie: Aldi and another bulk purchase place) we stock up with enough for a couple of days breakfasts and lunches.
From there we track tomorrow’s Le Tour route up the Cote de la Cole looking for a place to view the mountain stage tomorrow. It is about 20kms from where we are staying.
The scenery is just stunning and the climb quite steep at times – it is hard to believe that there are three more climbs on this stage and the last one is a killer. The camper vans, campers and cars are already setting up on the side of the road. Some of them have actually fenced off areas obviously saved for their friends etc.
After much discussion we decide to return to our auberge, have lunch, load the kids up with provisions, hide the hostel bedding in a suitcase and send them up the mountain to spend the night and save a space.
The road closes at 10am tomorrow morning so Toby is going leave the girls to guard our area and drive down to pick us up very early so that we can enjoy the fun as well. (and to return the bedding!)
