Jason and Dawn - Around the world 2011 travel blog

Woke up to some more rain. Decided to make our way into town to renew the van's registration (they call it REGO here) for another 6 months. The registration also includes third party insurance in Queensland... $340 later and we're good to go for a while longer.

While in town (Atherton), we decided to stock up on some groceries and did a little shopping. Had a Chicken curry and vegetable pie fresh from the bakery... yummy!

Shopped out, we made our way to Yungaburra, where we spotted our first platypus. The little guy kept floating on the surface of the water for a few seconds and then disappeared in the murky water for a minute or two before making another appearance... definitely strange looking animals, and certainly fun to watch. We also went to have a look at the curtain fig tree close by, which is an enormous strangler fig tree that has overtaken both it's host tree and a neighboring tree that was nearby. it currently sits at more than 100 meters in circumference! Pictures don't do any of what we are seeing justice. Being in the presence of the grandeur and beauty of nature are experiences we are happy to remember for the rest of time!
