George's Round The World Trip Journal travel blog

Well we got to Antigua yesterday and it took quite a bit longer than originally expected as there had been a landslide on the road going to Guatemala City which we needed to get through in order to get to Antigua. It all worked out in the end though and I was quite happy that we had opted for a private van instead of the chicken bus. The chicken buses are often quite full, have no air (are basically just school buses that have been converted to regular buses). In case I hadn't mentioned it before, we call them chicken buses because the locals sometimes transport chickens on them. The next stop we are going is going to be quite the trip as we will be travelling by five different chicken buses in order to get to our next destination...so that should be interesting :-).

Antigua is quite a nice town. I spent all day walking all over the place taking pictures and just absorbing the local atmosphere. People are really quite friendly to tourists here and people will often offer directions even if you didn't ask so that was quite nice. This is a small town so it only took a day to really go all over town but it was nice nonetheless. Pictures that I took of the town can be found here.
