Niagara Falls

Hi everyone

Have just spent the day exploring this wonderful city. I am very impressed with it - very clean, a good mix of old and new buildings, fun sculptures, very green, tulips and other spring flowers in bloom, very multicultural, friendly people and a very good public transport system

Went to the top of the CNN tower which is the highest in the world - amazing views - on a clear day you can see Niagara Falls but that will have to wait until tomorrow when Janette and Wayne are very kindly taking me there. It's about 1 1/2 hours drive. Met them in Morocco and they have moved here last year. They are having some friends to dinner tonight.

I came by train from New York yesterday - left at 7.15 am and arrived 8.15pm. Quite an interesting trip - very comfortable, lots of Australians on board including one from Adelaide I chatted to quite a bit who has lived in NYC for 23 years. I was surprised at how flat the terrain was and how much more prosperous it was once we crossed the border to Canada. On the US side there were loads of abandoned buildings, rusted trains and machinery.

New York was great - people very friendly, so much energy in the city. However the financial downturn is quite evident especially downtown. Lots of empty shops, the roads, footpaths and other infrastructure are run down. Uptown shows less evidence of that but still as soon as it rains the gutters overflow and the steps to the subways are flooded at the bottom. Saw one of the best shows ever - War Horse - if you ever get a chance to see it buy a ticket at any price.

Helen and Peter flew off to London on Monday and I moved to a cheap ($109 + taxes) hotel in a great location on the border of Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. Had to share a bathroom but never had to wait. Bus at door and 3 subway lines 50 metres away. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

Am here till Monday night when I fly to London so until the next update Love from Pam

PS I f the world ends tomorrow as some nutters are predicting then it's been great knowing you all!! And Julie what makes you think I wont see you in heaven - don't you think you'll make it!!
