Our Transport to Hamilton Island

Our Transport on the Island

Ruddy Traffic !

Nowhere to Park !

Whitehaven....White Beach !

We woke up from our night on the metal bed at 05:45am, ready for yet another 7-8 hour coach journey through to Airlie Beach - this was a different day, it was Sarah's birthday ! Not being able to avoid the coach journey, we set off (after a grand card opening session) and after a few delays we finally got to Airlie at 14:30...finally !

We had booked up a hotel room for two nights at 'Club Crocodile' - luxury for us....i mean, toilet in the same room, a bed with a mattress !!!

We dumped our bags and set off for a walk along the 'beach'...er.....stoney man made beachy kinda thing.....but not to worry as the sun was shining and it was warm (getting hot up here now - 25 degs and upwards !). We chilled out for a few hours looking around shops, sitting in a bar having a few drinks with some live music blasting out. We then set back to the hotel to get ready for the birthday meal out ! We had both agreed on a cool Mexican we had found earlier and set off !

Sarah plumped for Enchiladas and Paul went for Fajitas ! Top meal and then, an superb desert to follow it up, a banana and strawberry sundae each. Top stuff.....

In between all of this we managed to get ourselves booked onto a 2 island tour of the Whitsunday islands - Hamilton Island, a funky place that instead of using cars to get around, they use golf buggies (there's only 16km of tarmac on the roads there), there are approx 865 on the island !!! We had to do it too....we hired one for an hour and flew around the island - obviously Paul was the chaffeur....but a bit ropey when it came to roundabouts - he seemed to enjoy going around them a few times before randomly darting off down the a road (it's pretty hard to get lost to be fair). Those buggies handle superbly....brakes are another matter !

The time had come though for us to head back to the Harbour and catch the next ferry on to Whitehaven Beach - a 99% silicone beach (apparently rare) with gorgeous fine white sand, blue skies and little fishies swimming along the shore....watch out for stingers though ! not good ! We chilled out for a couple of hours (Paul dozed off for a bit) and just relaxed after our few days of travel. Finally at 15:30 we caught the ferry and headed back to Airlie Beach and headed back to our room for a well deserved shower before heading out to dinner !
