Singapore had introduced us very nicely to Asia but it was time to move onto to a wilder place and that place is Borneo! We took a flight from Johar Bahru (JB) just over the border into Malaysia to Kota Kinabalu (KK). They like their abbreviations here.

It wasn't quite what we were expecting in that it's a modern small city with kfc's on every corner. However it does posses an energy and character that is quite different from Singapore. We checked into Lucy's Homestay Backpackers to meet up with our friend Lou who was staying there while teaching in KK. It was great to see another familiar face so soon and we soon caught up, even if she had overindulged a bit the night before! She introduced us to her teaching pals and we set about exploring, not that there's all that much to see!

Our base established we prepared ourselves to really explore the Sabah region of this amazing island.
