It’s our last day in India but we still have a couple of sights to see so our driver & guide collect us at 8am & we’re off again. First we go to see the outside of the Hawa Mahal ( "Palace of Winds" or “Palace of the Breeze”). We only get to see the outside of this but while doing so we also get to see a snake charmer at work.
The main trip is out to the Amber Fort where we have an elephant ride included in our tour. Poor animals, there are about 100 of them, toiling up & down the narrow road to the fort. I should have taken my travel sickness pills as we sway about all over the place on our gaily painted elephant. I sing ‘Nelly The Elephant’ all the way up but our beast seems immune to my vocal renditions.
Yet another magnificent palace for us to wander around, it’s hard to take it all in but I liked the places where he kept his four wives in separate quarters with a private staircase down to each one so they didn’t know who he spent the night with.
We then get to visit another craft market where despite the free tea we escape by purchasing a silk scarf. It really is a bind going to all these markets where they try & extract as much money as they can.
Our final visit is to see the Jal Mahal water palace which is out in the middle of a lake & we don’t actually get to go out to it, just look from the shore & get pestered by souvenir sellers again. We forgo the opportunity of a camel ride & bid farewell to our local guide before heading off back to Delhi airport for our overnight flight to Singapore.
