Arrived 28th December

Departed 4th January 2011

Overnight ‘sleeper’ bus turned out to be a sitting bus but to be fair the chairs were pretty big and comfy! It was a total novelty for Vicki so she didn’t mind! Siem Reap is definitely my favourite place so far! There is so much to do and the place is so relaxed. We got up to all sorts! Watched sunrise over Angkor Wat (amazing but could easily have had another hour in bed!), saw the temple where tomb raider was filmed, visited a crocodile farm, hired push bikes and cycled around, shopped and ate. We also went horse riding through rice paddies and villages and past duck farms (the weirdest funniest site ever!) which led us to a hidden temple outside of Siem Reap! Was so cool watching the sunset as we headed back to the ranch (that’s actually what it was called, that’s not me trying to be a cowboy!). Vicki was hilarious on the horse, especially when we got chased by a calf and his rather HUGE mother who was dragging some little Cambodian man up the bank behind him attached to some rope! I laughed so much I nearly fell off!

New Years Eve was AMAZING! We started the day off by preparing a rather tasty picnic consisting of cheeses, salami, pepperoni, ham, crackers, French bread, crisps, pasta salad and some small chocolate treats. We headed off to Angkor Wat and did the 2nd day tour of the temples before climbing up a big hill to Phnom Bakheng Temple. We ate our picnic along with a few beers and watched the sunset from the very top of the temple! Beautiful! After dark we headed out to Pub Street to the most amazing street party I’ve ever seen. So weird because during the day, and in fact all the other days we’ve been here, there has been no one around, its been really quiet! We were a bit nervous that the party would be a flop but it was awesome!! The street was packed with people and temporary bars and speakers in the street! It was so much fun especially with my big sister here to share it with!

A FAB way to end the year and start a new one! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
