The Madventures of Brendan and Wendy travel blog

This morning we leave Nadi and head to LA. We have spent most our time in Fiji relaxing.

We arrived in Fiji at 530am Thursday morning - about 17hours later than we should have. We finally checked into our hostel about 7am and were pretty happy with our $28/night room. We went for a walk down the beach where we met John, a 62 year old tree climber who prepared some green coconuts for us and told us about how he was saving to visit Australia. The rest of the day we spent napping and wandering around. Brendan was amazed that there were far more girls than guys on the island - unlike anywhere else we have travelled. We went to a Kava party on Thursday night. It was very laid back, with everyone sitting around singing 'Please don't touch my papaya'...

On Friday we did an Ecotour to a village. One of the local villagers led us on a trek into the rainforest to an amazing waterfall - it was a little more strenuous than we had expected, we thought we were going to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant for a quiet wander. So did the rest of the tour group who seemed to struggle a bit with the river crossings and steep slippery walk. We had lunch back in the village and met the Chief (Ratu). After lunch Ratu took Brendan and I to the mud pool and natural spring for a bit of quiet time before dropping us back at our hostel. Friday night we went to a foam party at Ed's Bar in Nadi. Apparently Ed's is the only place in Fiji where guys outnumber girls. For the first time ever I did not get ID'd!

Saturday we spent recovering from Friday, lounging by the pool, roughly planning our trip to the US, packing etc etc. It was meant to be an alcohol free day until we met Daniel, a local who was having a couple of beers at our hostel bar...so our alcohol free day turned into rounds of beers with about 10 other travellers and Daniel, followed by another Kava party. Daniel was a super keen match maker and attempted to set up a girl and guy from the UK - apparently we are all invited to their wedding next year...

That brings us up to today - we will be heading to the airport in 45 minutes to head to Honolulu then LA. Some of our new friends from last night will be on our flight so it shouldn't be too painful
