Lake Tjörnin in downtown Reykjavik

Frozen Lake Tjörnin in downtown Reykjavik

Colourful houses and lake in downtown Reykjavik

Easy for them to say!

After our 7 hour direct flight from Seattle, we land in Iceland at 6:30 am. I'm sure it will start getting light out and we'll get to see the scenery soon as we travel the 50 minutes to the capital, Reykjavik. Right? 9:00 - still dark. 10:00 - just getting light out. 11:00 - the sun officially rises! That is our first Iceland surprise! The sun also sets around 3:45 so you have to pack a lot into the meager daylight hours!

We spend the day getting aquainted with Reykjavik and learning about all things Iceland. It may be one of the least exotic places I've travelled to, but its definitely different than home. The volcanic landscape is stunning, their words are hard to pronounce, they still believe in elves, the fun can be pretty weird and they are far more fashionable than back home!
