This was one of our most beautiful and interesting trips we have made so far. Traveling east on I-10 from Beaumont into Louisiana, the freeway is surrounded by swamp. For over 25 miles we traveled on an elevated roadway over the swamps. We could only imagine how many alligators, crocodiles and snakes we were driving over and decided we sure didn't want to run off the road! We also crossed the mighty Mississippi River just west of Baton Rouge which is a beautiful city. One of the things we saw that we had never given a thought to was all the cemeteries are above ground due to the high water tables. Some we saw are much higher than others as you will see in photos I post on this entry and one later in New Orleans.
