|So we rolled out of Ostiglia to a few drops of rain, and by the time we crossed the river and turn left, the rain had stopped, the sun was about to come out, and there were signs galore telling us we were on our way to Ferrara. Of course, there were no turns to go anywhere but Ferrara, but never mind.
Ferrara is competing with a lot of nearby destinations, but for a couple of cyclists, it is a dream destination. We have never seen so many cyclists, ever. Riding every kind of bike in every kind of outfit, in any kind of weather. Suits, people in party attire and elderly women and men all pushing the kick stand up and pedaling off. Fantastic! Our bikes did not roll one inch during our visit.
We found another smashing boutique hotel and settled into a routine - eat good food, buy a bottle of red wine and take it, with a couple of glasses to the main plaza, listen to the nightly bell tower concert and people watch, for hours. Eat more good food. It was bliss.
Oh we did some tourist things during the day, like a fantastic day trip to Venice when we weren't wearing a path back and forth to the internet cafe. Venice is a magical place and for a day, you can overlook the absolute horde of tourists. Some can do more than one day, but let's not press Tomas's limit!
We knew from the moment we arrived that Ferrara would be a hard town to leave. And we were right. But then, we had an apartment in Lucca waiting for us.
