In said hostel we come to this conclusion: New Zealand is great. But New Zealand is expensive. Compared to our daily budgets in Central America and our upcoming budgets in South East Asia, New Zealand is eating weeks in a matter of days.
Milford Sound is one of the places we wanted most to visit, but our realization brought us to two conclusions. The first was that it would cost us several hundred dollars to make the trip and make it worth it. The second was that we will certainly return to New Zealand some day in the future and that it will be much more thrilling to leave some prime spots unexplored (there are many others we missed) and look forward to catching them upon that return. In a way, New Zealand hypnotized us with her charms and we lost a little bit of perspective of the longer journey we have left.
In the hostel room we decided, no, we should get moving. Milford Sound, like Doubtful Sound, and the other Sounds in Fjordland will be there when we get back. And in the morning we turned East.
