There'll be a lot more for us tomorrow, but for now it's...

What a fabulous day - truly one of the most beautiful trails we've been on. We walked from "KM 104" railway stop in the Sacred Valley, for 4 hours to Sun Gate at Macchu Picchu.

Trekking through thick lush tropical jungle was a bit of a surprise at these altitudes, but we are close to the equator. The bromiliads and orchids blooming on tree trunks, softened with Spanish moss and air ferns, were superb. As were the begonias and various fuscia springing up everywhere.

Along the way we enjoyed the magnificence of more Incan sites, in particular Winaywayna - and I wondered at the time how can Machu Picchu beat this fairytale Incan castle?

We found out the next day of course.
