Llamas blurring their way through a tea-house stop on the trail

One of many Incan sites on our trails - Pulpituyoq

Mastering the Incan floating staircases

We had a fabulous 3 days trekking through the lower valley along Urubamba River, visiting several Incan sites. Our campsites were great, located in the grounds of haciendas, and even offering hot showers on 2 of 3 nights. An unexpected but most welcome luxury!

On our first day after an easy start through farm country near Ollantaytambo, we joined our guide Gustavo for a strenuous excursion to a seldom-visited Incan ruin in the Chilca region. It was a great 1.5 hours straight up the mountain, finally reaching Incan terraces which lead to the temple and ritual fountains above. Magnificent. Apologies again for no photos of this particular spot on my camera - but it was a great hike. Our return was mostly in darkness but this made it less daunting when heading down the steep, steep slopes!
