The Eel River along Hwy. 101

After checking the weather at Crater Lake, our next destination, we found that there was already 4 inches of snow on the rim. The forcast today is for 3 more days of snow, possibly 12 inches.

We decided to head east into Nevada and on to Utah. I had originally planned to stop after a few hours of driving but we did not find a suitable camp spot. We tried a couple of spots next to a lake but there was nothing available that our camper would fit into.

Rather than taking what seems to be the shortest route, I drove back south on Hwy. 101. The roads crossing through the mountains may seem shorter but it's much slower. I think my average speed across the mountains is about 25 mph.

When we stopped for the night in a small town along I-80, Dutch Flat, the campground host said they were expecting snow that night. After setting up, we tuned the radio to the weather band. They predicted the snow to move in the next night.

We will be getting up early and heading on.
