Summary provided by Roger: Later in the day, we picturesque Volendam. A lakeside community with a strong history in the fishing industry, and with anxilliary craft work in making cheese and clogs. The quaint little town is geared to tourists by having restuarants and shops along the water.
The town also has a division 2 pro team, with a stadium based right in Volendam. Last year, they actually played in division one, but they came in last place and were moved down to division 2. Tonight they played another div 2 team called Omnivision, which by comparison, appeared to be of lower capability. In fact, Volendam won the match 3-0.
The match experience was small scale and somewhat more folksy (e.g. they play music of local muscisians) than what we'll experience on the 18th when we watch the match Ajax vs Heracles Almelo. When goals were scored in Volendam, the spectators erupted into cheering and song signing. While it wasn't the highest calibre of soccer, the experience was quite memorable.
