The rolling hills of south eastern Texas.

Out through the hill country of east Texas between Houston and San Antonio is where we spent our next night after traveling all day. We arrived just in the mid afternoon and had plenty of time to set-up and rest some before the sunset. It was a part of Texas I have never experienced before being a native son. I have been all over the pan handle and west Texas, but never down into southern or southeastern Texas. Definately a different terrain than I have been use to in most of Texas. When I was going to college in Abilene we did make a quick trip to Louisana and crossed through northestern Texas and the piney woods area. So it was a different world. It seems that some of my great great grandparents have some connections to the Columbus area. They owned a plantation there somewhere.

We had a fairly nice campsite and were able to take in an evening watching the local deer browse through the pastures surrounding the preserve. It was early to bed and up again for another long days driving ahead. Lots of Texas still to cross.
