Kids get bored with history too!

Melaka was our history lesson for Malaysia. Formerly the most important place in the country it's been invaded and taken over too many times to mention. Previous successors include the Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and British, who finally conceded control back to Malaysia as late as 1957. Sorry, we didn't know that until now.

Influence from these invading nations is apparent everywhere, from churches to windmills to forts. There were again loads of Chinese here - the reason being that they were drafted in by the British as cheap labour. Greg took advantage of this part of history to sample the local cuisine in Chinatown. The food in Malaysia hasn't inspired quite as much as Thailand (yet) and the pigs trotters, pork stomach or fish-head soup didn't help - maybe a little too authentic for our British taste buds.
