El Remate is a small village on the side of Lake Peten Itza. We stayed at a hotel called Mon Ami. The first day we went to the lake and had a swim, and relaxed on the dock. We were very tired from our long bus ride. We met three dogs we named Anthony, Eric, and Rabubba. The next day we went to see the Tikal ruins.

Tikal is the ruins of an ancient Mayan city in the jungle. We saw a lot of temples that were in the shape of pyramids. The tallest temple, number IV, was over 200 feet tall. We climbed to the top of temple IV and temple II. It was really high and slippery on the way up because it was raining. I was nervous! Temple I was built on top of the tomb of Lord Chocolate and temple II was on top of his wife's tomb.

In the jungle at Tikal we saw lots of coatis, a gibnut, a toucan, wild turkeys, and an aracari which is like a toucan.
