Duane & Jo's Travels in 2009 travel blog

It is a short, downhill walk from the campground to the beach.

The Amtrak/Metrolink rail line runs along the coast . . . .

....in this area.

The weather was great and we enjoyed both walking and riding our...

Duane, dipping his ankles in the Pacific in November.

It is a steep walk up, back to the campground.

Darby was a Dar-Bee for Halloween.

The bed in the RV is still a good place to play...

I can stand on the stool.

At the Wild Animal Park. I don't know where the elephants are.

There they are.

Looking at all these animals is exhausting.

We spent the month of November in San Clemente at 2 different state campgrounds. The weather was superb and we enjoyed being close to the ocean. We were at San Clemente State Park the first 2 weeks. This park is located on bluffs above the ocean with easy access to the water. We spent the second two weeks at San Mateo campground in San Onofree State Park. It is about a mile inland, adjacent to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps. Base. From there it was a one mile walk to one California's most famous surf areas, Trestles. Sadly, we might not be staying here for extended stays in the future. To help solve the budget crisis in California, they have raised the camping fees to $60/nt., which would mean a 4 week stay would be a whopping $1680. We were fortunate to have paid for our reservations 6 months ago, so it was a bargain at $950. We have enjoyed being back in Orange County and the opportunity to reconnect with our granddaughter, Darby, family and friends.
