Patrick and me spotted a sign for the Mungo National Park and on a whim decided to take a road trip. We had hours to kill and I hadnt really seen any of the infamous red earth so we thought what the hell.

So we set off on an 80km stretch of unsealed road and after intially stopping with a view to turning back we headed off down the track with 2 sausage rolls and a bottle of water - so we were highly prepared.

The journey was pretty hairy in places but the views were amazing, miles and miles of bush and red earth. Now this is the Australia I had been wanting to see. We finally made it to the national park after passing just one car all the way there. They must have thought we were mad driving down this unsealed road in just an ordinary car but we made it ok. The Mungo park was stunning and largely empty of people and cars. At that point we thought perhaps we ought to ring and let someone know where we were, thankfully they still have payphones - even in the desert! We followed the track around the park and saw lots of roos hopping off into the sunset, couldnt get much more Oz than that!

It was a brilliant trip and fortunately we made it there and back in one piece which was more luck than judgement as we had hardly gone prepared!
