|Never thought we´d end up visiting this enormous (5.5 million people) pride of Spain, but here we are, after an autovia drive of 4 hours. This left us plenty of time to catch the bus/metro into the heart of the city aND WANDER THE WALKING STREETS AND PLAZAS. Hundreds of people on the streets-many attending a protest march, including lots of polica etc. In an adjacent plaza we encountered many :statues: people who make themselves up and remain motionless for hours (unless you drop money into their hat when they change positions)- very clever people. Late afternoon a concert started, showcasing the many regions represented i Madrid, and this finally ended around 9pm with a wonderful session of flamenco dancers, while we sat at one of the many restaurants having dinner. It was to be our last spanish meal so we chose fried sardinhas, calamari, bean and sausage stwe, chicken in garlic, and oh yes, a pizza!
