Mt Kinabalu

So you would think after as many long distance, overnight bus rides as we have under our belts we would remember to dress warmer. Two coats between 4 people isn't the most comfortable going through the mountains at night. Then early in the trip our bus stopped to pick up passengers from another bus that had broken down so we had people sleeping in the aisles for an 11 hour bus ride that was supposed to be 9 hours! But we made it to Kota Kinabalu (KK) finally and we are thoroughly enjoying this fun seaside capital city of Sabah, Borneo.

Our second day in the city we did a day trip to Mt. Kinabalu, the tallest mountain in SE Asia. We spent the day on some great trails at the base of the mountain (yes, I did manage to get the kids to agree to another hike even after the never ending trail!).

One of our favorite discoveries in KK has been the night fish market. Dozens of seafood vendors setup about 5 pm displaying their catches. You choose what you'd like and then they grill it for you. The hardest part is deciding what to eat each night there's so many great choices. Our first night we ate the largest shrimp I think I have ever seen. It actually tasted like lobster.
