The beginning of the Lake Walk

Great day to dine outside

When we arrived at our campground in Wisconsin it was a first for us… We usually always stay on the Minnesota side but unfortunately, Duluth is really lacking in their camping facilities so we decided to go across the lake a couple of miles to South Range, Wi. It is not that far from the Minnesota border and we found a spot that has some nice full hook up camping sites while still close to what we want to do….

We didn’t do too much the day we arrived except get set up for our stay but the next day was a real busy one….. It was a beautiful sunny day so we got out early and had our first stop at Wisconsin Point…. As many years as I lived here, we have never gone down this road before… The road is in very bad shape and signs warned to travel at our own risk but it was all worth it when we stopped….. As we walked thru the dunes to reach the beach we spotted a Mama deer with her little one….. They stopped in their tracks when they saw us and let me take some pictures before they retreated to the woods…. What a beautiful way to start our day.

Since it was Saturday and we had read about a Farmers Market on Barkers Island (an island on our way to Duluth) we made a point of stopping there before going across the bridge to Duluth…. I got some yummy strawberries and some other good home made stuff and then continued on.

It had been a long time since we had poked around the Lake Walk near the Fitger building so that was where we chose to go this day…. Fitger’s is and old brewery that was turned into a very impressive hotel with lots of restaurants and shops in the same complex….. There were a lot of changes since we were there last but never the less, a very interesting place to visit….. Next door to the Fitger’s Inn is the Pickwick….. The Pickwick has long been my favorite place to eat in Duluth if you don’t count Sammy’s Pizza…. It was our choice for the lunch spot of the day and we were not disappointed….. The food was as great as I always remembered it but I was sure glad that we were there for lunch and not dinner….. I don’t think we could afford the evening prices….

After lunch, we went to the marina on Park Point…. We had some of our fulltimers from our class of ‘05 in one of the RV spots that they rent out at the Marina…. It was the first time we had seen this RV area but there are very few spots there so I don’t think we could have gotten in even if we had known about this one…. We did meet Steve and Lynette for the first time though and found them just as nice as the rest of our classmates…. They are also from Duluth and sold everything 5 yrs ago to go full time just like us… It was great to finally meet.

We got home later to find our good friends Dean and Arlene sitting in our lawn chairs waiting for our return….. It was great to see them.

Sunday was another nice day and we went down to Canal Park…. We never tire of that area so you will be seeing a lot of things from there….. We bummed around the area and had a cup of soup for lunch at Grandma’s…. This is a huge tourist area and it was very crowded with the beautiful weather… We watched the boats coming and going through the Ariel Lift Bridge for a long time before we had to leave for the airport.

We were there for the arrival of Little Sister Jan from California…. Big Sister Miriam and Brother-in-law, Vic were there too and we all went out for dinner after we got her luggage….

Since that time we have all been together every day either shopping, eating or playing tourist and having a good time… I’ll tell you more as soon as we get some down time……. Later………………
