(Ron Writing) This morning we continued east along the south shore of Lake Ontario. We first drove north along the Niagara River below the falls up to the Fort Niagara area and then east on NY-18. This is marked as a scenic route and it certainly was a beautiful drive. The first part of the drive was very close to the lake and often in sight of the lake. We drove through many small towns but most of the area is agricultural with apple orchards, vineyards, berry farms and some dairy farms. Generally very beautiful countryside.
There were many vegetable stands along the road in the rural areas but it’s early in the season so most of them are still closed. We did find one stand selling tomatoes which we purchased.
Near Lakeside Beach State Park the route along the lake becomes Lake Ontario State Parkway. This is an old concrete road that is in very poor condition so we quickly left this route and followed NY-18 again a little south of the lake. We then took NY-259 south, 531 east, and I-390 south to Henrietta, NY just south of Rochester. We are parked for the night at Wal*Mart.
We enjoyed great weather again. It was a little cloudy most of the day but no rain and in the mid-70’s.
