A much better shot of the St. Louis Arch

The train ride back to Michigan was one of the nicer bits of transportation on this trip. Our chairs were huge with a leg rest, there was a sight-seeing/lounge car with windows on the walls and ceiling, and a dining car for full meals. They showed three movies over the course of our trip, and I gotta say that National Treasure should have been nominated instead of Million Dollar Baby. Really - it's like Indiana Jones meets Disney.

So we just lounged and had several coffees, walked around the train and read our books. Perhaps the only frustrating part of the journey was attempting to get any sleep on the train. The seats didn't go back nearly as far as on the Mexican buses, so even with the footrests, it was not comfortable at all. At 4:00 in the morning, after waking up fifteen times or so, I moved behind our seat (we were at the back of the train car), curled up on the floor, put my legs under our seat and slept on the floor until 8:00 or so.

Our train arrived in Chicago around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and we had a 3 1/2 hour layover where we could wander Chicago a bit and stretch our legs. We had packed enough food for all of our meals on the train, so we decided to grab a meal in Chicago prior to the rest of our trip to Michigan. We put our backpacks and baggage in a locker at the train station and took off for some coffee and food, both of which were very quick and easy to encounter. At 6:00 we were back on the train . . .
