Classes in the garden

We have been studying Spanish in San Pedro on Lake Atitlan for a week and a half. After six weeks of not doing much, sitting in classes each day has been very challenging! Luckily we have found a rather patient teacher who puts up with us drifting off a little and coming in hungover at times.

We have also been living with a local mayan family in a pretty basic house which has given us a good view of the way people live here, although unfortunately the family had a habit of speaking mayan rather than Spanish at meals as it is their first language. Today we moved to another family in town as Chris´s asthma had been generally irritated by the mattress in our room which was possibly a good few decades old. While dumping your host family (in Spanish) isn't easy, we managed without too many issues....

So while it has been great spending a couple of weeks in one place and getting to know the locals, our feet are a little itchy and we´re looking forward to no more school and a change of scenery from Friday.

ps. no pig flu here yet!!
