Lake Tekapo was a short drive from the Peel Forest and the excitement of NZ was starting to wear a bit as we arrived and it was raining off and on and had been since our arrival. We were getting anxious for a clear day, it would be a bit before that happened! The lakes here are all amazingly colored. Deep shades of blues and greens depending on glacial melt and minerals, but almost all are very clear and bright. The hike at Tekapo was less muddy but as we climbed through the clouds we were frustrated to not be able to get as many photos as hoped for from the summit. It was a very nice walk from our campsite up to an observatory and back down along the lake. That night was interesting as Annie woke us up to point out the fact that the "flat" ground we had pitched our tent on, was more like a flatpan and the rain had finally saturated the ground and was collecting where we were trying to sleep. Fortunately they didn't lock the TV lounge at the campsite and we moved in there to dry out bags and catch some Z's. Tried another flavor of Tip Top that night as well.
