Great tour of Sedona today. It sure saved Tom a lot of driving. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the geology and history of not only this area but all of Arizona. We learned so many things about the different strata of rock, composition of the rock, and fossils. I doubt that I will be able to recall 80 percent of what the guide told us today but even 20 percent would be a huge addition to my memory bank.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a must see when in Sedona. A most peaceful place. The Heritage Museum was very interesting also. It is in a building that was the home of one of the earliest residents of Sedona. There was information on everything from the lives of the original residents to movies that were made in town - most notably Broken Arrow.

After a short foray into Oak Creek Canyon, we went to Airport Road for the most magnificent view of the town. You can see almost all of the named rock formations from Coffee Pot Rock to Ship Rock to Bell Rock. Earlier we saw Snoopy Rock, and ( close to the Chapel) Two Nuns Rock and Mother with Child Rock right behind them.

How did Sedona get it's name? Mr. Schnebly, a merchant and the town's first postmaster, wanted to call this place Schnebly Station or Oak Creek Crossing but the post office did not have the technology at the time to make a rubber stamp big enough for either of those names - So-- they settled on Schnebly's wife's first name - Sedona.

We came home , had lunch, and took off for Alcantara, an award winning winery in the Verde Valley. This one didn't disappoint. We had the most wonderful tasting with the owner of the vineyard, Barbara Predmore . Her wines , mostly California grapes, (some Arizona grapes in one of the wines) were exceptional. Barbara has great plans for the construction of a Tuscan Village on her property . When it is completed we hope to return . She is wonderful, her wines are wonderful, and I am sure her B and B and village will be wonderful.

Played a few hands of cards and decided to call it a night a little earlier than usual. Tomorrow is going to be a very long day - going to the Grand Canyon.
