|So after leaving Mae Sot my plan was to spend a day travelling and go 10 hours North the the town of Mae Hong Son. I didn't make it that far and got only six hours north, to a town called Mae Sariang. For one, I left Mae Sot later than planned, and wasn't on the road until noon (I had to wait for my laundry to be finished.) Also, I enjoyed the scenery so much from Mae Sot to Mae Saring that I didn't want to go further until it was light out. The road was very well paved and took us through a jungle that was full of teak, Asian redwood, and giant ferns. The air smelled like perfume and I spent the entire trip with my head out the window, breathing it all in and feeling intoxicated with the scent. It really was beautiful, but I was ready to stop for the night and was very hungry, so I was happy to get off the bus at Mae Sariang, get a cheap hotel room, and find a place to eat. The nice thing about Mae Sariang is that it's right on the river, so I found a restaurant with a nice view of the rushing waters (which I heard more than saw) and enjoyed a dinner of vegetable tempura. Then, off to bed for me; it was a fairly uneventful night, but a good place to rest before travelling some more the next day.
