Following Amber and Nathan.

Bundaberg Rum Distillery

Bundaberg Ginger Beer.

A cosy night in the van - only one person's allowed to...

We've got ourselves a convoy! In the campsite at 1770, we bumped into some friends we'd met on Spank Me, and decided to hook up for the next few days. Amber and Nathan have been teaching English in Japan for the past five years, and are currently on a year-long round-the-world trip, before heading home to Canada (are you keeping up?!) After a morning stroll down to a very sandy and very windy beach, the four of us hit the road. Next stop: Bundaberg.

Famous for its rum, which is made from the sugar cane grown in the fields for miles around, Bundaberg is a sizeable and affluent town. Our tour of the famous Bundaberg Rum Distillery, through rooms of vats, wells of mollasces and warehouses of bottling plants, took us on a journey from field to bottle - finishing with a tot of the stuff! Fantastic fun - even if we decided that rum's not our favourite drink in the world!

After another few hours in the van, we made it Hervey Bay early evening...just in time to book ourselves onto a tour to Fraser Island, departing tomorrow at 7am! Hervey Bay itself is a popular holiday destination in its own right, with a 10km stretch of sand that more than made up for the procession of shopping centres and superstores we passed as we drove into the town. The four of us booked onto the same tour - a two day, one night trip run by Cool Dingoes - and spent a great evening eating, drinking and playing cards...
