GIll climbing to tree lookout!

Monday 13th Oct – Today Gill and I spent our last day on the Gold Coast driving to a couple of mountain tops. Our first venture was to Laminton National Park which is quite high up at about 2000ft above sea level. However, I made my first mistake in driving in Australia. I set off without too much gas in the car expecting to find a gas station in the National Park. No chance! I had to drive down the windy mountain road for 50 kms to find gas!! So rather than go all the way back up again we decided to go to O’Reilly’s Plateau. What a road! Single lane a lot of the way with so-called passing places. Approximately 35 kms of windy road through tropical rain forest up to about 2000ft again. However, once we got there is was very nice with birds everywhere – see photos. We went on a tree top walk through the forest including Gill climbing up another 30 - 40 feet to a tree platform for a better view!!

Tomorrow we fly to Sydney.
