Last night we ate at Het Walletje at Burgwal 7 -2611 in Delft. We each had the 3-course meal at a measly 19.50 Euro each. I know in the States a meal like this would have set us back a pretty penny. The food was delicious. For a Starter, I had the rundercarpaccio met rucola & verse parmezaanse kaas (thin sliced beef on a salad with wonderful flavors) and Simon had the gerookte zalm met mierikswortelsaus & kappertjes (Salmon). For an entrée, I had the varkenshaas met cognac pepersaus (Pork with pepper cognac sauce) and Simon the ossenhaas tournedos met champignon roomsaus (Beef). And dessert for me was a simple pancake met cherries and for Simon, Cassata. Of course, nicely flavoured Dutch potatoes and a salad.
After leaving the restaurant, we walked around the city center where a local carnival was going on. Hundreds of kids, youths, and adults. I was having so much fun sight-seeing, I forgot to button up properly. Silly me. I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and feeling quite yucky. Colds and flus for me quite often turn into bronchitis. So today I was careful to take it easy, drink plenty of fluids, rest and pray not to become so ill.
But my crappy ailments did not prevent us visiting a good friend of Simon’s. All I can say is this was one cool woman. Extremely hospital and classy. Her home and garden were so beautiful and inviting. We all shared coffee, wine (of course), and fine conversation. Once, again, as a visitor rather than a tourist was an opportunity to see what’s actually behind one those beautiful row houses that we often stroll past.
From there we went shopping (again) and came home and had Tomato soup made especially for me by Simon’s pedicurist. I’ll have to remember to give her a thank you card.
