Internet is terribly slow as we are quite remote, so thought I would just update on the past week. Have been here a week now, such a different world compared to California
Well went for another surf on Thursday. Was smaller this time around 6-8ft face, but pretty windy so surfed Wilkes' Passage. Still very good and was in for around 4 hours. After that went for a snorkel around the coral reef just off of Namotu Island. Did attempt some photos with an underwater case, but was not successful
In the evening, we sat and just drank Kava for a few hours as 3 of the guests were leaving the next day. For those that don't know, Kava is a non-alcoholic drink that has a slight effect making your mouth go numb after a couple. Tastes slightly peppery and looks like dirty water
Yesterday got a bus to Latouka (2nd largest town on the main land), situated about 2 1/2 hours bus ride from the resort. A very hot day, and no air con on the bus makes it seem longer. Ended back in Nadi, and looked around the shops for a while.
Just chilling this weekend, may go for a surf on Sunday. On Monday, we are going on a tour to a waterfall inland, along with visiting a Fijian village and a BBQ.
Resort is very tranquil, and at high tide the sea comes to within 5 metres of our front door. At start could not sleep but have become used to it now. Still get woken up by the sugar train (sugar is Fiji's greatest export) at around half 3 in the morning. Don't seem to wake up from it though after a night of Kava.
At low tide, you can walk out onto the reef about 100 metres to get a better view of Tavarua and Namotu from the resort. So many rock pools with crabs, fish and other creatures. As the tide comes in, the crabs dig holes, quite amusing to watch them fightng over the holes.
Will attempt some uploads of photos, but may upload more when am in New Zealand, next week.
Hope everyone is well, and hope to speak to you soon
