I made a short trip to Kiel to attend my grandmother's funeral. Although I was planning to go there later in the month, I decided to go anyway and I'm glad I did. It was really good to be there and to share the occasion with my mother, as well as to meet some relatives who I might never meet again.
Friday was a rather strange day. I woke up at 5:00 AM in a tiny village in the French countryside. As I drove to the Paris airport, the sun was just coming up over the seemingly endless fields of wheat and grapevines. I stopped briefly for fresh croissants in the town of Chateau Thierry. Then, after a 1-hour flight, I was in Hamburg, speaking German and riding a bus to my mother's hometown.
Only in Europe.
On Sunday I flew back to Paris and met Lisa and the boys at the apartment we are renting. More about that coming up...
