It did take a little adjusting to get used to life after Vorovoro. I was so used being around people and my first night in Nadi was so different. I had a sixteen bed dorm to myself, which is of course a good thing – it just felt strange. Especially when I heard one of the other hotels having a culture night with traditional songs I recognised being blasted out through speakers with drum beats and synth sounds added to them. Not quite the Fiji I had gotten used to.
Anyway it wasn’t long before I was sailing through the Yasawas to start a week of island hopping. My first stop was at Tavewa Island, a good five hour sail away from mainland. After getting to know the people who were on the same island hopping pass at me I quickly hit the beach and spent the evening playing volley ball – being put to shame by the locals.
The next day and I decided to visit Sawailau Caves – which were fun, but overpriced, (but I guess if your as cheap as me then everything is overpriced!) You had to swim underwater a few rocks to get in which was quite scary at first, but definitely worth. It was very surreal swimming around a cave in the pitch black.
