Cruzin2gether Summer 2008 travel blog

6-20 This is Bill; before I start today I still want to talk about yesterday. As you can tell by Dot’s words it was our best day yet! We saw the most wildlife so far. Great hikes and spectacular views. I could not have a better hiking partner. We are on our way to Yosemite. It was hot (107) going through the Mojave Desert but we got to Calico (ghost town) California at 4:30 PM. We will do about 2 hours in the morning. Caped this evening off with Ball Park Franks over the fire. Boy did they taste great1

While Bill was reading what he wrote he paused at the part about his hiking partner and said to me “your suppose to say oh that’s so sweet” well I couldn’t have a better partner who pushes me to keep going and does my spell check for me. While paying for our site he made a comment to the ranger about the heat. The ranger said, “ yea it’s just starting to warm up, after 110 it doesn’t matter.

6-21 got up ate then took a tour of ghost town in Calico. Watched a gun fight took a train tour & panned for gold. I wouldn’t want to make a living of it. Such hard work for so little gold, but it was fun and interesting. Left Calico at 1:00 headed for Col. Allen worth St. Park. Arrived about 5 everything was already closed. Saw a maintenance man who told us to get out of town right away…just kidding he said to just pick a camp site and drop the money in the box. Boy was that hard. We drove through two times to find a spot with the most shade. Cost $10.00 but we had no water/electric hook up, but we did have the whole place to ourselves. Set up trailer and went into shower clothes and all. When we got hot we just hit the showers again. Then we put our swimsuits on and notice they turned on the sprinklers, so off we went like a couple of young kids to play. Still no real good wild life. prairie dogs and jack rabbits (big and fast) for excitement I counted cars again. Just plain relaxing.
